The Hydraulic Snubber is an acceleration or velocity limiting device designed to arrest piping movement during dynamic or operational events.
The Snubber will allow thermal growth with minimal resistance during normal operation of the system (known as the passive mode).
When subjected to a velocity or acceleration greater than pre-defined limits, activation occurs and applies a resistance to the motion (known as the active mode).
When in the passive mode the Snubber allows operational velocity of the piping system, usually 2mm/s, the resistance is limited to 2% of the max load. This allows normal expansion of the system.
When the velocity exceeds acceptable levels, usually 3 to 5mm/s, the Snubber valve system is activated and the Snubber adopts a locked position. This ensures damage limitation of the system and transfers forces to the plant Structure.
The added feature of relief valves in the Snubber design promotes a high safety level so no overload condition is transferred to the piping system.
Protective coatings are available to project specification.
Where required end attachments can be supplied.
